Under Water Inspection (UWI)
Survey (inspection) of a ship is a process of determining the technical condition of a ship in order to establish its compliance with current regulatory and technical documents. Inspection of the vessel can be scheduled and unscheduled. Thanks to a scheduled inspection any violations in the structure of the vessel can be detected in a timely manner and eliminated. In case of abnormal situation an unscheduled inspection and elimination of defects can be made for prevention an accident.
In most cases, the inspection of the vessel is carried out under the supervision of an inspector of the Classification Society. The diving company must have a Certificate of recognition from the Classification Society under which the survey of the vessel is carried out to perform such work.
Survey of the vessel can be performed in the dock and afloat. It is necessary to have special permit to perform this type of work. Therefore, an underwater inspection of the vessel is carried out by a team of specially trained divers with necessary equipment.
The results are entered into the report of survey and transmitted to the customer along with a photo and video recording of the work after the examination.
An underwater survey of the vessel is carried out in the following cases:
● Necessities for obtaining/renewing a license for the transportation of passengers, goods or a permit for operation.
● Assessment of the condition of the vessel upon its purchase, sale or lease.
● Before a scheduled repair.
● In cases of an unplanned situation: damage after a collision with other transport objects, landing on a sandbank or complicated we conditions.
